Storing a race car or track car
Race and track cars come with a trailer, spare wheels, tools and fluids. The right storage gives you secure space for all of it and easy access on event week.
Space for more than the car
- A bay long and wide enough for the car, and room for the trailer or transporter.
- Racks or secure space for spare wheels, tyres, parts and tools.
- Somewhere to keep helmets, suits and safety gear dry and out of the sun.
Tyres
Racing tyres age with heat, sunlight and time. Store them cool, dry and out of direct sun, and ideally off the floor in a rack. Keep track of how many heat cycles they have had.
Fuel and fluids
Many facilities restrict fuel and fluids on site. Ask what is allowed, how it must be stored, and whether the car can be stored with fuel in the tank. Follow your category's rules and drain or treat the fuel system as needed for long storage.
Access and workshop use
- Flexible access on short notice around race weekends.
- Whether you can do light maintenance in your bay, or the facility has workshop space.
- Power access for chargers and maintainers.
Insurance, paperwork and security
Most standard policies do not cover competition use, so speak to a specialist motorsport insurer and check what is covered in storage and transit. Keep logbooks, licences and compliance paperwork somewhere safe, and choose a facility with good security because race cars and spares are valuable and portable.
Frequently asked questions
Can I store my race car and trailer together?
Many providers can, but you will need a larger bay or yard space. Tell them the size of both when you ask for a quote.
Can I work on my track car at the storage facility?
It depends on the facility. Some allow light maintenance in your bay, others have separate workshop space or do not allow it at all, so ask first.
Is race car storage more expensive?
It can be, because it often needs more space and flexible access. A clear idea of what you need helps you compare quotes.
