Privacy policy

This policy explains how National Car Storage ("we", "us") handles personal information collected through nationalcarstorage.com.au. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. It should be read with our terms and conditions.

1. What we collect

  • Details you give us: your name, mobile or phone number, email address, suburb and postcode, vehicle details, storage preferences, notes, and any photos you upload.
  • Technical details: your IP address, browser type, the page you submitted from, and the time of your submission.
  • Location, only with your permission: an approximate location worked out from your IP address and, if you choose to share it, your device's precise location.
  • Business enquiries: if you run a car storage business and fill in our form for storage businesses, we collect your business and contact details, the storage you offer and the areas you serve, so we can contact you about leads.
  • Record of your consent: when you agreed to be contacted, the exact wording you agreed to and the version of our terms at the time.

2. Why we collect it

To recommend suitable car storage, to contact you about your enquiry, quote or call-back request, to tell you about storage, vehicle care and insurance offers you may be interested in, to keep a record of your consent, to prevent spam and misuse, and to run and improve our website and services.

3. Who we share it with

We may share your details with storage providers and partners who can help with your enquiry, so they can contact you, and with service providers who help us run the site (such as web hosting and email delivery). We do not sell your personal information to unrelated third parties. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

4. Overseas disclosure and third-party services

To suggest your suburb we use third-party services: ipwho.is, which turns an IP address into an approximate place, and OpenStreetMap Nominatim, which turns coordinates into a suburb and postcode. These requests are made by our server and may involve organisations located overseas. Our email and hosting providers may also store data outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure overseas recipients handle information appropriately.

5. Direct marketing and opting out

If you ticked the consent box, we and our partners may contact you by phone call, SMS and email, including with marketing. You can opt out at any time: reply STOP to an SMS, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or tell us on a call. We will act on your request promptly and honour it even if you have not unsubscribed from other lists.

6. Cookies, local storage and counters

We use a session cookie that keeps the forms working and protects them from misuse. Your browser may also store a small note of your location choice so we do not keep asking. We keep a simple page-view counter that records how many times each page is viewed and does not store personal information.

7. Security and how long we keep information

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted access to our systems. We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or the law requires, and then delete or de-identify it. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm we will notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required.

8. Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by using the call-back form on our website and telling us your request. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, tell us and we will respond promptly. If you remain unsatisfied you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy by publishing a new version on this page. The version of our terms in force at the time you give consent is recorded with your enquiry.
